Apols for not replying sooner - I have been most unwell for some weeks & not up to much...but 110% now & back into it all.
I owe you a lengthy email about Clara Janet Stubbs (nee Kemp)
I replied to a hot match from what did turn out to be you (as I suspected) on genesreunited tonight. It never occurred to me that "my" Emmeline Kemp may have been one of yours. A very small world hey?
I tripped over Emmeline Kemp when I was researching my Menzies family tree (on my father's maternal grandmother's side of the family). My ggg-grandfather Peter Menzies and his wife came to Australia (Melbourne) in 1862, after being married in 1861 in Perth, Scotland. Witness to their marriage was Ruthven Menzies, who was Peter's much older 1/2 brother who followed him to Melbourne in the late 1860s, settling in Port Melbourne. Ruthven had married Jane McLean in Scotland and they had 6 children, 2nd youngest was James Menzies, who married Emmeline in Melbourne. They had 3 children - Emmeline (jnr), Margaret & James (jnr). James snr died young (of sunstroke or something as simple as that) & Emmeline snr then married Charles Isaacson, of whom I know little, though think he was born in Adelaide. They had no children. I have a few certificates & a bit more info....the McLean family are also researching that side of the tree. I can dig up that info if you like plus a few contacts.
On the other side of the family (my mum's)...the Kemp's were very popular with the Stubbs/Roberts family. I'm digging deep into my memory now but I know one of the Stubbs' children was named Kemp Stubbs, is about 90 and very much alive & well (as of December, when I last asked great-uncle Vic Roberts). We have photos of Kemp as a baby/toddler - a most beautiful child.
I'll be in Melbourne over this weekend until Tuesday 27th - coming down Friday morning for my school reunion at St Leonard's College in Brighton on Friday night. Perhaps we can have a chat or even meet? I'm staying with friends in Port Melbourne. Is short notice but I can probably dig out the relevent paperwork...it is filed in a vaguely sensible fashion!
Mobile: 0417 422 802 & I'll call you back from the nearest landline!
Look forward to hearing from you and hopefully getting all those connections going....I can't believe we may be connected on 2 sides.
All best Andrew,
