    • He joined the Royal Navy as a boy 24 June 1834. Ships: HMS Spartiate, Snake, Hawich, Princess Charlotte, Dublin, Rodney, Ewryalus. His rating on discharge 8th March 1849 was Quartermaster. When He married at St Nicholas, Harwich, ESS, England on 16 August 1849 his place of residence was Milton. In the 1851 census Gravesend, Kent, are found Henry and Ellen and Ellen Charlotte (9 months, born Hammersmith, Middlesex). In the Middlesex census, 1851, there are: Alfred MOREY 31 bricklayer b. Hampshire. Charlotte " 31 wife b. Hampshire. Henry MOREY 61 bricklayer b. Hampshire. War Graves: Henry Morey, Historic - Maori Wars, cemetery Parua Bay, reference 1A Series 76/16-18, died 04 May 1898, aged 81. (National Archives). This record must have been made by Percy Harold Morey. It is a miss-representation of the fact. Henry Morey was born 05 Aug 1816, Havant, HAM, ENG, joined the Royal Navy in 1834, fought at the battle of Acre in 1842 and was in the Baltic Sea during the Crimean War. He died 02 May 1898, Parua Bay, Manaia, NLD, NZL and is buried in the Parua Bay Cemetery alongside his wife Eleanor Poppy who predeceased him. KLN Parua Bay. He was not in the Maori Wars, may have been in New Zealand during his early Royal Navy days, and his grave is not an Historic War One.       Hello Andrew,

      As promised the ancestry of Eleanor Poppy. Yes I have been in touch with Geoffrey – but might e mail him again as it’s been a while and he might have further information. Two of my Poppy relatives that I have never met but who first got me interested in Family History when I retired 3 years ago are hoping to come up to Northumberland in May so we will be able to have a good exchange then.
