Marwick,MacKintosh,14-Oct-1891,17-Oct-1891,At the residence of the bride's mother by the Rev J Gould Smith,"James William Thomas, youngest son of the late John Marwick ofRichmond to - Emily Alice seventh daughter of the late Hector MacKintosh of Fox Hill (no cards).
Living at Boscombe Estate, Ahrens at time of death at Grey's Hospital in Pietermaritzburg. Death reported by JE Gale (nee Marwick).
Eppie was an accomplished horsewoman and entered show jumping competitions riding side saddle. Her sister Harriet was married to her husband's older brother John Marwick.
"Granny (Jessie Emmeline Marwick) often spoke of her one and only Mackintosh uncle, George, who was an alcoholic and was given a room in an outhouse at Mona Glen, next to the harness room. Long John (Douglas) and his brothers played pranks on him and once put a bees' nest in his bed and waited in the harness room. When he went to bed in his usual inebriated state he made theoft-quoted, " Bees, bloody bees!" comment."
Further info from her grandson,Arthur Michael Gale: "Mother's brother was the only male member of their Mackintosh family and he was a bachelor. He was the one who was an alcoholic and occupied one of the outhouses at Mona Glen, the room next to the harness room. The rest of the family were all girls and I can recall her speaking of Barbie and Nellie who were spinsters, Elsie who married Humphrey Jones, Auntie Harry (Harriet) who was Ann Turner's Granny, and Mother (Auntie Eppie) and five other girls one of whom was Stuart Little of Underberg's mother. Unfortunately we haven't got their names. He did say that he chatted to a Mackintosh who was from Zim who told him that there was a Mackintosh Society in Scotland but that she did not know their address. She was no relation to our Mackintosh family."
